When do you pay transfer costs?
Transfer costs need to be paid to the conveyancing attorney before the transfer of property takes place, which is usually within three months of the home loan being approved.
The transfer costs depend on the value of the property. The higher the value, the higher the transfer cost. You can use our Transfer Cost Calculator to determine how much you will pay.
Transfer duty is separate from transfer costs. It is a tax paid on the transfer of the property (although properties valued below R1 100 000 are exempt) and must be paid to SARS within 6 months of the transfer.
