How are home loan attorneys’ costs determined?
The costs of bond registration and bond transfer are determined by the purchase price of the home. The higher the price, the higher the attorney fees.
Bear in mind that there are two types of attorneys involved in a bond application process.
The conveyancing attorney is hired by the seller but paid by the buyer. They charge for the transfer of the bond from the seller to the buyer. The fee includes:
- Transfer costs.
- Transfer duty, a tax paid to SARS (properties worth less than R1 100 000 are exempt).
The other attorney is the bond registration attorney, who is paid by the bank to register the bond in the buyer’s name. They are also paid by the buyer.
You can use our Transfer Cost Calculator to determine how much you will pay on transfer and bond registration, based on the selling price of the property.
