Do you pay transfer fees when buying a house?

Yes, the buyer is responsible for paying transfer fees, although the conveyancing attorney who conducts the process is appointed by the seller.

You will have to pay a fee to the attorney, and a taxc to SARS known as transfer duty. However, transfer duty is only payable on properties above R1 million in value.
