Deeds Office meaning: What happens at the Deeds Office?
The Deeds Office is where Title Deeds, which contain records of who owns a property, are registered and held until the new owner of the property pays off their bond.
The registration is handled by the conveyancing attorney during the transfer of property from the seller to buyer and requires the payment of Deeds Office fees along with transfer costs and transfer duty.
Registration of the Title Deed usually takes 2 to 3 weeks.
A copy of the Title Deed can be requested at any time, by going to the information desk at any Deeds Office and filling in a prescribed form. This does require a fee.
