Can a foreigner get a mortgage in South Africa?
Foreigners can get a bond in South Africa although some special conditions apply to them.
For example, the bank will only fund 50% of the purchase, requiring them to provide a 50% deposit or buy the property with cash.
Furthermore, a nonresident will have to invest one rand in the country for every rand they need to borrow.
Non-residents’ investments are not subject to South African tax. If foreigners investing in property in South Africa later sell that property and wish to transfer funds out of the country, the local tax laws of that country will apply.
