What is the repo rate today?
The current repo rate is 8.25%, making the prime lending rate 11.5%.
Over the past few years, a succession of hikes has seen the repo rate increase as the South African Reserve Bank looked to combat inflation.
But experts predict that the repo rate hikes will cease and the rate will stay the same in 2024, and may even reverse in late 2024.
This prediction was borne out by the SARB’s decision to leave the rate untouched in September 2023 and early 2024.
