Can I insure my house for more than it’s worth?
It is your responsibility to insure the dwelling for the correct sum insured so as not to be under-insured at claim stage. You could insure the house for more than it’s worth, but insurers will put you in the same position you were in prior to the loss when a claim is submitted. That is, they will only pay you out on the actual replacement value, not on the higher value you insured it for.
