Who can apply for an oobacard?
Only customers of ooba can apply for the oobacard - these being: Anyone who has previously secured home loan finance using ooba (or MortgageSA); or anyone who applies for and finalises their home loan through ooba.
oobacard is available to the primary home loan applicant or, in the case of a joint application, to the joint applicants. Should it be required, additional oobacards may be issued in the name of your spouse and dependents, as long as they are over 18 years of age. The additional card/s will be linked to the account of the primary account holder
What benefits do I get from using my oobacard ?
You'd use it to get a discount / cash back every time you shop at or use the services of our selected partners.
You can save between 7.5% and 35% off the advertised price - and there is no qualifying criteria.
In other words, as long as you pay with your oobacard, you automatically qualify for the discount when you use it to purchase from one of our partners. Also, you can use your oobacard at all MasterCard outlets worldwide, which means you can charge all of your household expenses to one credit card.

If the oobacard partner is running a promotion, will I receive the oobacard discount over-and-above the promotion price ?
From time-to-time oobacard partners will run promotions to the general public for a limited period. Often these promotions only apply to a limited range of products. In the case where you wish to purchase a product on promotion, you will receive the greater of the oobacard discount or the promotional discount in value.
How do I apply for my oobacard ?
All new ooba customers will be contacted directly by an oobacard consultant who will talk you through the application process. Advise your oobabond consultant that you are interested and we will have someone contact you as soon as your home loan has been approved and accepted by you. If you have in the past secured a home loan through the services of ooba or MortgageSA, then you can either:

Do I need to change my bank?
No, it's not necessary to change your bank. You can keep your existing account with your current bank. Take advantage of our balance transfer offer and save by moving your existing debt onto your oobacard. oobacard offers you another convenient credit card option which can be used to take advantage of discounts offered by our selected partners and to make purchases at stores worldwide wherever you see the MasterCard logo.
How does the card work ?
The card is a credit card, administered and issued by Absa Bank Limited ("Absa"), a member of the Barclays Group, under license of MasterCard. The card works like a normal credit card and can be used at stores worldwide wherever you see the MasterCard logo. You can use it to make purchases or cash withdrawals. It also offers you cash back / savings every time you use your oobacard at oobacard partners.
Each time you use your oobacard to make a purchase or a cash withdrawal, Absa will debit your account to reflect the amount of the purchase or cash withdrawal. You will receive a monthly statement with details of the amounts owing on your card and the date by which payment needs to be made to Absa.
Does the oobacard have a credit limit - what will it be?
Yes, there is a credit limit. On successfully applying for an oobacard, we will advise you of the credit limit. This limit should not be exceeded by you or any other cardholders linked to the account. Should you also require a budget facility, this credit limit will also be reflected on your monthly statement.
What are the interest charges on the oobacard?
Your account has an interest-free period, during which time you will not be charged interest on purchases. If you pay the full outstanding amount on or before the due date shown on your monthly statement, no interest will be charged on your transactions, except on those transactions where interest would have been charged from the date of transaction, these include :
- Cash withdrawals using your oobacard
- Travelers cheque purchases using your oobacard
- Electronic funds transfers which result in a debit balance on your oobacard account
- All budget facility transactions
- Fuel or fuel-related transactions on the ooba garage card
If you do not pay the full outstanding amount on or before the due date shown on your statement, you will be charged interest from the date of each transaction on your account.
Debit interest will be calculated daily, capitalised and charged to your account monthly. Debit interest will not exceed the maximum permissible annual finance charge rate allowed under the National Credit Act.

Do I earn interest on credit balances?
Yes, you will earn interest on any credit balance on your account. Credit interest will be calculated daily over the full statement period and will be credited to your account monthly.

What are the fees on the oobacard?

Is there lost card benefit for my oobacard and what do I do if it gets lost or stolen?
You must notify Absa immediately if you find that your card has been lost or stolen, if an ATM has not returned your card or if the card details or your PIN have been compromised in any way. You can notify Absa by calling the Lost Card number/s below :

the numbers found on your monthly statement or on any ATM.
Lost card benefit is included in your monthly service fee. This will protect you against unauthorised and fraudulent use of the card (except for PIN-based transactions) if the card is lost or stolen. As long as you have reported the card lost or stolen, you will not be liable for unauthorised and fraudulent transactions on the card as a result of the loss or theft, with the exception of PIN-based transactions.
Any unauthorised transactions that were made using the card and PIN, or solely with the PIN, will not be covered by Absa and will be your responsibility.
What information will my oobacard statement give me?
A monthly statement will be sent to you, reflecting :
- your transactions for the month
- discounts / cash back you received from oobacard partners
- the full amount owed
- the minimum amount due and the date by which this amount must be paid

How do I pay my oobacard account?
You can pay your oobacard by direct debit order, electronic funds transfer or by cheque/cash deposit. Please note that with electronic funds transfer it can take up to four days to reflect in your account, so you have to pay the account in advance. Cheque payment is not recommended.
