Transfer Duty

This is a government taxation which applies in every case except where the seller is a registered VAT vendor (an example being a property developer). It is calculated as a percentage of the purchase price and varies depending on the purchaser's legal status.

Click here to access our Bond & Transfer Costs calculator which will assist you in calculating these costs.

The duty is payable even if the agreement was conditional, and is therefore also payable on an agreement of sale of land on installments.

To obtain exemption from transfer duty, a declaration by Purchaser and a Rev 683 form has to be submitted to the South African Revenue Service.
